Half back combinations used : Sat Apr 23, 2011 10:09 am  

I think I'm right in saying that we've used 6 half back combinations already this season and we're not even half way through the year. They are as follows:

Wheeler and Eastmond
Gaskell and Eastmond
Pryce and Eastmond
Gaskell and Lomax
Wheeler and Lomax
Wilkin and Lomax

Anymore?

I think we've done remarkably well to get ourselves in 3rd spot with 3 defeats, two against our strongest rivals who have had ALOT more luck than us with injuries. How on earth can you get consistency with such disruption in pivotal positions? I'm praying we get a bit of luck at the business end of the year with injuries particularly in the half back combinations. We didn't get it last year and we've had even worse luck so far.

Is it just luck, or is some of it to do with conditioning?

That's a good question.

Last year people was putting the blame on Potters training methods but we are worse this year.

It worries me that lomax is our on fit halfback as his injury record ain't so hot either.

The worrying thing is, our halves are out fairly long term so we'll have to go with either Moore, Wilkin or recall Eastmond to play alongside Lomax. Gaskell is the next player due back, but not for 6 weeks.

Lomax took a knock yesterday and may be doubtful for Monday.

I wonder if we have any room under the cap to look at bringing someone in even if it's short term?

I'd only recall Ea$tmond if he was literally the last man standing.

Being serious his defence was poor yesterday, he was all hands and no shoulders.

I like the lad as you know as he "one of us", but in the games against Wigan he has been targeted defensively.

Sam Tomkins in the GF, Hoffman at Cardiff and Joel Tomkins yesterday have all given him a difficult time.

this might be contraversial, but i didnt think the hit on wheeler was particularly late, the hoff was commited to the tackle. He didnt hit him particularly hard either, or high. I was surprised when he got injured from it to be honest, but perhaps i shouldnt have been with his injury record. I've taken harder hits and at worst ive been a bit winded.
