Had the one year option been in Saints favour do you think it would have been taken up, particularly if it's true that Saints will now have to pay his full salary?
Now that is a question that doesn't need much thought

Depends whether any of the options available would be wiling to join us. Is it just my ignorance of has there been a lack of movement regarding halves in Super League for next year? Other than Brierly rumoured to be joining Leeds if Leigh don't come up and maybe Widdop, there's no been much movement over here. In Australia there's been a few; Aidan Sezer, James Maloney, Kane Elgey (re-signed), Cherry Evans (re-signed), Kieran Foran, Luke Keary have all been off contract for next year but have been signed up. None of those would be attainable. The halves listed that i've picked (probably missed out some) are still all off contract for next year; Trent Hodkinson, Blake Ayshford, Kyle Stanley, Chad Townsend, Robert Lui. Potentially Hodkinson we could get (his agent has apparently offered him to Super League sides?). Would any of the others move here?

I think saints would have took the option up from what I'm told. I'm hearing we wanted him to stay. Personally I wouldn't have took him up for another year. His injury record at saints is horrific (even without the broken leg/ankle) and with that type of injury I think it's hard to get over.

I'd be very surprised to see Trent Hodkinson move to Super League as he would be giving away his New South Wales jersey. I think Super League at the moment is just being used as a bargaining chip by Australian agents. By all accounts Hodkinson is off to Newcastle Knights next year and Chad Townsend is going to Cronulla. It wouldn't surprise me if Saints offered Quinlan a deal for next year if he goes well to add to the depth in the halves as well as the cursed fullback position.

Quinlan won't come here long term. We tried to get him over before Mcdonnell but he didn't want to come so he won't come here long term.
I think he will go well for us but I expect some lows with him too.
From what I recall the big criticism of Walsh in the NRL was his unwillingness to run the ball regularly (see also Matty Smith). I don't remember his defence being panned more than many halfbacks, but could be wrong. Also, to play Deil's Advocate asking a halfback coming back from a big injury to make big tackles when the team is throwing the ball away every five seconds and missing tackles up the middle is a bit rich. He could and should have done better, but so could the pack. Why should he risk getting injured again when the rest of the team is throwing the game away around him? Sure its not a Shaun Edwards mindset, but on a human level I can appreciate him thinking that.
