It is unfortunate that Jones is going. I think Matty Dawson gets way too much stick on this board. But purely on overall contribution it's pretty hard to make a case that he's worth keeping above Jones, who I thought was absolutely immense toward the back end of the Grand Final.
Of course, it could be that Jones, like Savelio, is pitching the value of his services way higher than he has any right to. It could also be that the club just doesn't know where best to fit him into its system.
Right now we're playing him in the backs. But I think he's most likely to make a big contribution in the back row. But where do we play him? Even with Savelio going we still have a ruck of good kids fast approaching the age when they need to move up.
