Therefore, if we fail to make the play offs this season then it will be a failure of very significant proportions.
I totally agree with you. For St Helens not to make the play offs doesn't bear thinking about. Having said that apart of me hopes it happens then McManus will see how things have alarmingly gone downhill on the playing side. Losing Long, Cunningham and Sculthorpe where massive blows but they have never been replaced and losing James Graham was the straw what broke the camels back. I'm not saying for one second we should have signed players who where equally as good as the four players I have mentioned but we have signed dross to replace them on the cheap and that cant be accepted. I know the market dictates who we can sign and things like that but bringing over the likes of Laffranchi, Perry to carry the battle upfront has been a huge mistake. Soliola has been our best overseas signing since Puletua and our recruitment policy has to change dramatically. We have to start rebuilding now (I know the fans are sick to death of hearing we are in a transition period but it has clearly gone wrong). We have some very good young players coming through the ranks like Luke Thompson, Mark Percival, Adam Swift, Anthony Walker to name a few and Alex Walmsley has been our best prop by a country mile this year but he cant do it on his own.
The signings of Walsh and Mosoe are a great start. We need at least another prop and a half back for 2014. Then maybe with a few more additions on top of that we can start challenging again. We currently have players here that are more than capable of achieving much more than they currently are.
