Re: Wakefield Match Thread - St Helens 52 v 18 Wakefield : Sat Mar 16, 2013 5:00 pm
There we a number of small changes made tonight that really improved the look of the team.1. Walmsley starting, Brown was going to try this against Leeds but the M62 had other ideas. I thought he would be an impact player on the Bench but Brown seems to see him as a starting prop. Looking at him so far I agree. His minutes will increase as his conditioning improves but for now he provides so much physicality. His sheer side got us two ruck infringement penalties alone.
2. Turner and Jones, switched. This was done last week but it really worked this weekend. Turners attack is much more suited to our favoured Left hand side attack and Jones' solid defence sured thing up on the right.
3. Soliola and Jones interchanging. Jones took some of Sias workload in defence in the middle during the second half allowing Sia to run at centre. It worked we as we opened up and played more horizonal near the end of the game.
4. Lomax following Manu, probably less to do with the coach. More down to Jonny finding that Manu's offloads are a great way for him to attack.
5. Walker as a working 13. With Jonny playing as a modern fullback it allows us to have a modern working loose forward. If Walker had not cramped up at half time his stats would have been great (I am looking forward to seeing what he did in 40 mins). It looks like Walker is more suited to being a large back rower than a small but mobile prop.
