A beaten pack = a beaten team : Mon Feb 04, 2013 3:26 pm
Just finished reading the post's regarding the Saturday debacle. Yes the forwards were beaten to a pulp, thus giving the halves nothing to work with. I don't think this will happen very often in the coming months and hopefully the halves will show their true capabilities. What remains in my eyes is the fact that the saints three quarter line is is probably the weakest and slowest in the top ten sides. Meli is prone to giving points away as we have seen in the past yet is still the best wing at the Saints disposal. Makinson for all his alleged pace continues to try and run through defenders rather than round them; this demonstrates his lack of basic skills. Jones and Turner are two very inexperienced centres that will cost Saints a number of points in the months ahead. Sadly for Wellens it is time for sentiment to be put aside and accept he is no longer superleague material. Wellens' greatest attribute in the past was his impeccable positioning play; on Saturday it was woeful. This inexperienced and inept back line has no chance whatsoever behind a beaten pack and in my opinion silverware is a remote possibility. I will not get too despondent as this was the first game of the campaign, so taking into account the facts and personal rivalry involved this was a game high on the agenda for the Giants to win.
