That's very promising. There's not going to be a lot of breathing space for some of the established stars at this rate, which is what we want.

Hopefully Mr Brown can avoid them stagnating while they await their chance.

Although with it being a friendly and players where off and on, so whilst they may hit hard for a 20 minute spell in a friendly, that does not automatically translate to competing with the likes of Laffranchi and co doing 40 - 50 minute spells against a battle hardened Wigan.

But when you think that, say, Walmsley was playing at amateur level only two seasons ago, bearing in mind the standard of his performance on Friday night, there really is reason to be hopeful that some of those young blokes could bring more to the party than certain senior players. I'm not grouping Laffranchi into that as he was a model professional last season and will be this season too. But there are certain other players, Josh Perry springs immediately to mind, who performed worse against teams lower down the table than Walmsley did on Friday night.

I know it was only a friendly, but Walmsley went looking for work and made yards with ball in hand. He's clearly hungry which is what we need from our forwards, I'm looking forward to seeing him in action again.

Exactly, we've certainly got one senior prop that has shown on occasion that he can perform like the player we signed , but fails to turn up frequently and looks generally out of shape.

Before this friendly and at the time of signing up Walmsley my thoughts were to bring through Jordan Hand and Walmsley both together with the same development plan.
Some games I would like to see Perry and LMS as starting props with Walmsley and Hand on the bench bring them on he field together to provide energy and momentum with TP as back up.
If Mr Brown can get them coached and developed together Walmsley and Hand should feed off one another and who knows could be he start of a young energetic pack in years to come.

That's the great thing about this season, we have a good number of players competiting against each other in every position. From a squad point of view, its really healthy and will hopefully give players like Perry a wake up call. We have now have 3 experienced props, coupled with a couple of younger ones who if picked would do a great job, so we do have options.

With a bit of luck, the prop in question will be only be with us for another season then we get a more effective replacement in.
