The best time to judge Makinson, and any of our kids now, would be at the end of his first full season with the new coach. No point in judging him now and comparing his stats, we've been struggling in attack, and with confidence at an all-time low, his stats will show this.

He has the talent and the temperament and he has heart. He will go far in the game.

I agree, but I think that of Jamie Foster as well. He's not much older than Makinson and has very similar stats to Ade Gardner had during his 'good' spell before his injury last year, yet he's Scapegoat No.1 no matter how hard I try to install Lance Hohaia into that role.

I do though think Makinson isn't a winger. He should be given a run at fullback or centre as those are the positions he'll end up in.

The young players seem to be under so much scrutiny yet the players on the big bucks are performing poorly, people should be more concerned about them.

makinson is a solid player and doesn't bottle it which is a good sign for a winger or fullback, but he isn't an explosive winger and i dont think he ever will be just one what gets on with the job.

Statistics aren't the be all and end all, as you point out they do need some context. But they are indicative and can be used to support points, which is what I did. I said Makinson gets his reputation for being 'better' than Foster and Gardner from making fewer errors. The stats shows this to be correct, he makes fewer errors and misses fewer tackles. I also said he doesn't do enough with the ball, and has been anonymous in most games he has played for us. His stats show that to be the case as well and they don't seem to be improving on last years either. You just don't notice Makinson in most games, he doesn't make mistakes, is solid, but is never a threat to the opposition.

It's very easy to understand why you don't see much of Makinson - he's starved of quality possession. If Josh Charnley and Makinson were exchanged Charnley's input would drop off the scale whilst Makinson would see more ball in one game than so far he's seen this season.

Perhaps playing him at fullback so he can see the ball a bit more might be an idea?

wasn't makinson at fuulback in the GF? think it'll be his best position as stated if he gets more ball could make a impact, thin he will improve in the dryer weather aswel.

He moved there after Wellens was injured.
