Using Origin as a stick to beat him with is a bit harsh IMO. I appreciate that it made expectations higher than usual but he was only ever picked at that level for his defending, something for which he cannot be criticised in the time he has been here. He hits a good line too and has a respectable scoring record for a (mostly) forward.
All that said, he has spent too much time at 13 when we have had better players for that position, and without doubt he has regressed since the start of last season. With hindsight I wouldn't have kept him on this time around, and by the early nature of this announcement I reckon Flannery shares that sentiment.
