How long till St Helens is sponsored by Poundland?
If that's the market for St Helens that's what it is. Every pound spent in Poundland is worth the same as every pound spent in Harrod's. It can't compete with Liverpool or Manchester so it should try and do something different with individual shopping i.e. look to attract independent traders, local fashion entrepreneurs/boutiques. People will travel miles to go somewhere like that e.g. Botany Bay (where people drive up to 30 miles and actually pay to get in and yet it's poop). There's a great opportunity with the removal of old Tesco to invest in a modern market/bazaar that could be unlike anything else in the area if the town get it right. Rather than trying to attract Karen Millen for the sake of twenty jobs, get people who run their own trading businesses and get them in here instead of them having to compete somewhere more expensive. External economies. Gear it towards them and start building an area where such businesses take priority instead of being slaves to which big corporate will pay our business rates.

Great idea on the trail although I'm not sure there's enough heritage in St Helens to do that and get away with it. After all Boston is the birthplace of a modern nation rather than an 18th century parish church community lol.
yeah was thinking of bypassing the heritage and just getting punters to the ground
but you knew that

I'm a Wigan fan who spends huge chunks of his income in the pubs and bars of St. Helens. I wouldn't like to see this. It's just plain disrespectful.

Don't talk soft you big girls blouse. If you don't like the fact St Helens is synonymous with the Saints, then go and drink in Wigan.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you. Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

He probably spends a lot of time and money in Westfield Street etc. Don't think he will be buying Saints Best Bitter in the pubs though.
