I think Shenton was very under rated last year. When you look at our tight games his difference showed. He played pretty much with newbies all around him last year. Not just the GF but games where we struggled to score he could usually find a way through.
I agree.
As for wellens if its an achillies then id prefer lomax at FB leave makinson on the wing. Lomax at fb gives us three pivots and negates the back on the bench policy. Lets gaskell kick on from last year with a more experienced player to bring him on.
I don't agree. Lomax has been through his utility player phase. He's now been given the no.7 shirt and he should be provided with the opportunity to make that spot his own. Other, younger players should take on the utility role. Makinson won't have a spot on the wing, assuming Gardner returns and Foster remains our first choice winger on that side. So IMO it should be Makinson who gets first dibs at proving himself in the fullback position. He played there (as well as at centre) during his junior years and he slipped into the role very well in his first Grand Final. It would be poor not to offer him the chance to build on that and show his coach what he can do there over time if Wello is out for the start of the season.
Well we shall just have to disagree. I don't see Lomax at FB being a utility role. Just as Scully going from Loose to half back was not a utility role. Lomax linking in from FB still lets him show his half back skills in attack. Lets face it we ain't going to have a pivot at Loose whilst Royce is here. We were at our best with 3 pivots, most teams are. ie Wigan finch, deacon, rat boy.
Leeds Maguire, burrows, sinfield
Saints, Long, Martyn, Sculthorpe. (interchange with hooper for latter years)
Makinson is not a pivot, but is above Gardner in my opinion. So Foster and Makinson should start most games anyway.
