Re: Gareth Frodsham to Batley : Wed Oct 05, 2011 9:33 pm
Gareth was always a fantastic junior, who was, imo, fast tracked too soon into the first team as a prop. He was, and is, a big mobile lad, who has had a shocking time with injuries. He was supposed to spend this season on loan at Widnes, but that deal broke down somehow. Another operation has seen him miss more of this season, although he was never likely to play for anyone but the U20s. People make a lot of the after effects of the Burgess hit (and it was indeed a massive shot), but that coincided with his long bout of injuries and operations. He has had 7 or 8 big operations over the past few years, and has broken down a number of times in rehab. If he can regain fitness, which is a real doubt in my mind, he might go on to regain form and confidence. If this happens, then hopefully he can get a promising career back on track. I, for one, wish him all the best.

He never made it to the first team when the likes of ashurst and nathan ashe did , but they can't all be world beaters.

I think DA made a big mistake by not putting frodsham back on for last 10 mins after burgess smashed him and should have picked him the following week. I think it knocked confidence massively.

He may have come back on against the bulls made few tackles and couple of runs and then been ok or had a run out the following week which might have restored his confidence.

The fact he was never seen again in a saints shirt must have give him the feeling he wasn't good enough but let's be honest the is no Shame in getting smashed by a world class forward like burgess, ask ruban wiki.

I think he did play again after that, didn't he? I seem to remember him taking a big shot from O'Loughlin later in that season.

It was obvious at that point that he wasn't physically ready, and it sounds like he just hasn't had a chance to develop since then due to injury. A shame, as by all accounts he had plenty of potential. Hopefully he'll have an injury free run at Batley and can start to find his feet as a pro player.

Robinson wrote - Saints - it depends on whether the side can get over their mental block. We're more than capable of beating 'Dads Army', but it appears that Wigan still shiit themselves at the mere sight of a red V.

He played after that game, I remember him putting a big hit in on someone the season after the burgess hit.
Decent player but to many injuries (Think we may sa a lot over the next 18 months!!)

Obviously, as an underdeveloped 18 year old prop, there wouldn't be many older, stronger more experienced forwards that he could smash. He's still only 21, I believe. If he can regain full fitness, his physical transition from a strong boy into a strong man, will big a huge plus for him and his career.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

I still reckon it was a highshot from burgess, arm in face.
