thinking of going on the train from Bank Quay can anybody tell me how far the Pied Dome is from Wigan Northwestern?

Definately more than 10 mins, I would say more like 20.

Come out of station and cross the road immediately (saves doing it later, where it is much wider).

Turn left to go under the railway bridge. Keep going down the main road unti;l you go over a small hump bak bridge,

Immediately you cross it. turn right down a dead end street that leads onto the canal tow path. Carry on along the path until you reach th stadium.

I would say about 15-20 minutes max.

Directions for you

Come out of the station and the older one is across the road turn left there

Down to the bottom of the street turn left

Follow the road past uncle joes factory untill the traffic lights

Turn left at the lights and you will see everyone walking down just follow

It depends how many pubs you come across

For me its usually about an hour and a half. But ive heard it can be done in less than 30.

Urban myth im sure.
