High tackles? : Sat Sep 17, 2011 1:15 pm
Last night's game highlighted something that I think is a problem with the rules as they stand. How can a player be penalised for a high tackle when the ball carrier ducks or falls into it? While nobody wants to see head or neck injuries these are generally penalties where the tackler is in no way at fault and the only person that can be blamed is the ball carrier, yet the tackler gets penalised.Shouldn't the refs interpret the rules a bit here or be given some guidance on how to apply the rules? How can you give a penalty for a high shot when the tacklers arm is well below shoulder height?
