'Underground' bands. : Tue Mar 12, 2013 9:17 am
So, who do you like that no-one has ever heard of, and that aren't going to be chart bound for a while yet?

A few of mine:

The Talks - ska, very much in a Specials mode
Mannequin - One for Weller fans, slight sixties vibes at times
Corsairs - Rockabilly band doing covers of non-rockabilly stuff, some very odd stuff on their most recent album. Pure niche material, but that doesn't make it bad.
Sophie Porter - Brilliantly talented acoustic punk solo artist, very distinctive voice and a brilliant guitarist.
Jeramiah Ferrari - Sunshine sounding reggae and calypso, but with rock and punk undertones... If there was any justice in the world. Etc.

Skint & Demoralised, great pop songs plus spoken word, quirky but I love em.

The history of apple pie. Stupid name but is a mix between sonic youth and My bloody valentine.
Bit hard to say will stay unknown for a long time as all it needs is a song to end up on an advert or a good appearance on Later or something and woosh well known band

Agree with this one, love their songs, I wasn't a fan of the new one on first listen but after a few listens I realised how good it was.

I also think other bands from S&D's record label Heist or Hit records like Bad Veins and The Answering Machine, who's albums I bought when they had a 20% off sale. One more, Danny Mahon supported Liam Fray at the Ritz and I thought he was brilliant. I bought a demo CD from him and it's brilliant.

Washington Irving. Scottish indie-folk-pop with just an EP to their name at present, but after hearing the track Sisi, I was won over and I cannot wait for more releases to see how they progress.
