Agreed - I'd actually say they were quite brave, because they could easily have gone down the path of regurgitating their most commercial album (The Bends) and, with it, becoming very tedious, in the manner that Oasis did after their first two records.... It would probably have made them lots of cash, but it would have become very dull.
Instead, they have a collection of records that are very different, and in their own unique way, all worth a listen... I agree that to some people their material, especially the recent stuff, is very challenging and even unlistenable. However, given a listen with an open mind, there is always something interesting in a Radiohead record.
I think Jonny Greenwood's film work is testimony to the talent that lies within the band.
