The coverage was about the worst I have seen from the BBC.
It was embarrassing how the commentator kept having to apologise for the fact that the on-screen timer bore no relation to the actual amount of game time elapsed. No tackle counter was irritating after getting used to Sky's coverage.
The first 10 minutes or so featured too high volume on the referees microphone that sounded like listening into a mobile phone conversation on the train being sat next to someone with their phone on speaker mode. Awful.
I doubt the sport picked up any random viewers who had not already committed to watch the game. It took me about 20 minutes of Googling and trawling iplayer to actually find the game in the first place; in the end the only option was to find the specific channel number for Virgin (a TV package I only have to make my broadband cheaper). The lack of specific guidance on the BBC's own website was pretty poor, did they actually want anyone to watch?
The lack of video referee was also appalling. Was this because the BBC refused to fund it?
If it was part of a ruse to encourage fans to go to the game it clearly backfired - the North Stand looked empty and didn't put the game in a good light either.
