Tough call and I'm sure we'll have had to pay him off so that's going to hurt him. Whatever we'll have done will have been in the most cap-friendly way possible. Surprised it didn't involve him getting a coaching job for a year
I'm not sure we've convinced him per se, I think he was probably told he had to go to the Bulls or similar and thought retiring was a better option (I don't blame him)
We will have had to pay him off, does that go on the cap or not?
We coundnt have forced him to go to the bulls tho, could have easily just sat back and got his final year salary.
We would have negotiated a payment - I'd assume a similar sort of amount we would have had to subsidise him at the Bulls. Wouldn't be his whole year's wages though. Maybe half?
Overall, i think he's definitely been one of the better overseas singings we've made. He always gave everything, and his mobility and ability to offload late will be missed.
He was a very good player. Time caught up with him. Not his fault we dumbly offered a 34-year old a 2 year contract. Hopefully lesson learned - we seem to be generally signing players for 2 years now, which is about right unless they are really special or expected to take a while to develop.
