The club deserves criticism for the end of era transition debacle. But credit where it's due: we must have had the most terrible commercial run since the huge stadium investment, and despite that GH is determined to forge forwards, improve the playing squad and play this challenge on the front foot. Takes some mettle to do that so hats off.
Regarding other signings, much depends on who we retain from the current roster. If Prior and King stay, we might not need much more in the pack. Ideally I'd like to see one or two existing players replaced with a "cannonball" 10m carry prop to complement Mik and Tom, and to give us more options with injuries. We have plenty of back rowers and I have no idea what our best 11,12,13 will be in 2022.
Pack is OK; most of the ingredients are in place now. Halves are OK although we are still light on cover. Leeming showed up quite well at 7 actually so maybe that's a change we could make if Johnson comes into the mix; Jack Sinfield is coming through but he needs time.
Back line is tricky. We are stacked for centres but don't seem to have a preferred combination. We have one fit full back (Myler) and uncertainty remaining over Walker. It worries me that we've just given up on pace for our back three - is Myler and the two Briscoes as a combination the slowest in SL? Speed isn't everything but we have almost zero long-range strike. We really could do with a Johnstone type player who can put the fear into that defensive line from anywhere on the pitch. Tindall has a bit of that going forward but looks all over the place in D which will get exposed as SL level.
We will look so much better after a full pre-season going into next year - hopefully both halves are fit going into training. Most of our side is still growing/developing so they literally can only get better you would think.
