Steve McNamara also managed to win a Challenge Cup. I hope we're not in the market for a new coach when he next becomes available. If you think about it, it's amazing that he's still in a top coaching job since running a (then) well-resourced Bulls team into the ground. Aside from getting England to play attractive RL and the solitary CC run, he's done very little with one of the richest clubs in SL, despite having the pick of junior French RL talent (for what that's worth), and seemingly greater capacity to bring in big name overseas talent than other SL clubs.

McBanana at Bradford is an era I'd much rather forget - Once we got Potter in charge things improved but it still took him a year to weed out some of the awful signings his predecessor made. The only thing you can say for McBanana was he got the junior side of things up and running, albeit by the time they were coming through we had to sell them to stay afloat and once you start doing that things only go one way.

There aren't many if any things I can think of that would put me off watching the club. Appointing McBanana as coach would be very close though. I feel sick just thinking about it.

I know, with unlimited cash to play with we could have ended up with Keith Mumby as well as Phil Fox, Gary Spencer and John Lyon

I think the fact we hated Wigan so much makes people say they played boring Rugby under Wane. This isn't acctually true. I've never seen a team play more attractive rugby than in 2012, with Tomkins in his Prime. Wane trusts the kids and gives them chances. Think we need someone prepared to do that. Bringing Donaldson and Thompson off the bench is absolutely pointless imho....

Not a Leeds fan and not a Wigan hater but the Wane tactics around the PTB and the attack being highly structured just makes it dullsville in my eyes. Plenty of teams have played better rugby albeit not always won the comp e.g. Cas, Warrington, Saints etc.

Wane only just inherited the side from Maguire in 2012, so perhaps that is some of the old style rubbing off on him. Don't forget that quite a lot of Wigan fans didn't like the way they played under Wane either.

TBF,
Mumby was a great defender at FB in his prime, not so much by mid 80’s mind you.
Agree with bullseye Peter Fox never got the cash to spend like coaches that followed.
I think though the game was moving beyond Fox by then.
Not sure many Leeds supporters warmed to him much but I lost it when he played 9 of the team that drew 24 all with HKR, the very next day v Bradford. Not surprisingly we lost easily and then 3 days later lost the semi replay after being nil nil at half time, we completely ran out of gas.
The selection v Bradford 24 hours after a semi final was impossible to understand , suspect he was trying to prove something v Bradford but we lost 8-28 and i think that was it for him really at Leeds.
From The first semi Leeds played 11 games in 29 days, won 2 and drew another v Bradford in a fixture pile up nightmare

We got some really big calls to make for next year.
Martin
Mellor
Prior
King
Myler

Could all potentially be moving on.
Think someone needs to make a call on Walker too.
Exciting times. I would trust Wane to make some big calls. I would trust Agar and Sinny too to be fair, but I honestly feel we need a serial winner in (and someone who wants to be a head coach for a few years) to see us through the next transition.
Wane would have my vote from the realistic options available. We'd need to start negotiating now though as it's clear he's looking up tie a contract down.
