Really hope we're manouvering cap space (e.g. Myler, Olpherts, maybe Johnson) for a big signing.
Burgess or Sutton....

When you look at club trained players from last season -

(Newman, Handley, Oledzki, Holroyd, Smith, O’Connor, Gannon, Johnson, Sinfield, Simpson, Nicholson-Watton, Edgell, Lumb, Smith, Warren, Ruan)

You’d think that Newman, Handley, Oledzki or Smith will be our highest paid club trained player. Which ever it is, will only count as £50k on the cap in 24, reduced from £75k

The overseas marquee player rule is £150k which is obviously going to be Brodie Croft. (Millar, Fusitua, Momirovski, Croft, Frawley, Martin, Lisone).

There is also the federation trained marquee player, which is down from £150k to £100k in 24.

(Ackers, Bentley, McDonnell, Sangare, Goudemand, Olpherts, Hudson, Roberts, Donaldson)

You’d think out of them, Ackers is probably on the most, which will mean he is exempt after £100k.

Anyone under the age of 21 on under £30k are also exempt from the cap, which is likely to be Edgell, Lumb, J Smith, Nicholson-Watton, Ruan, Warren, Simpson.

I think given the circumstances, I think it’s safe to say we have cap space left.

Myler > Millar (probably about same)
MacDonald > Momirovski (about same)
Austin > Croft (considerably more but Marquee rule probably means less)
Sezer > Frawley (less)
Leeming > Ackers (about same but new fed trained rule take him less)
Tetevano > Goudemand (considerably less)
Walters > Hudson (less)

Gibbons, Field, Edwards were probably under the u21 rule so no different, but Hooley gone.

Given this I think we have a fair bit of cap space left.

Leeds will utilise every rule possible and so they should.

Guess the only issue, especially when it comes to a prop, is who might be available and who wants to come. Did you hear anymore on Wilson?

Good insight to how the cap works.I would think Frawley coming from the NRL would be on a very similar wage to Sezer. When Sezer signed for Leeds Peter Smith wrote he wasn't a marquee player.

Burgess or Sutton....

Definitely not getting a big signing Prop. Mid range ala Wilson will happen. O’Doherty is still seen as good, experienced back line cover. + is bigger earner and no way he’ll get anything close elsewhere…

O'Doherty? Assuming you mean Olpherts. Is this from your sources at the club or just in your own very definite opinion.

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

I think history shows that there's a lot of risk attached to a big name overseas prop. Maybe it applies to overseas players in all positions who are in the latter stages of their careers. But off the top of my head the list below were big names in the NRL and none did particularly well.

Sio Taukeiaho
Rhys Kennedy
George Burgess
Zane Tetevano
Frank Pritchard
Stephen Kearney
Frank-Paul Nu'uausala

Feels like a better route is youth development or untapped Championship talent (aka Walmsley/Hill).

Yes very good point. Add Ben Cross to that list too (not a big big name but came over as with a fairly high profile). Eastwood was another with a good reputation and he was a disgrace.

Let all the doubters keep doubting and those who believe keep believing.

We’re only interested in those in the bubble. Anyone who wants to come in the bubble, you can come in.

But you’ve got to keep believing.
