You said (with zero evidence) he wants to coach the team but doesn’t want the official title incase it all goes wring and he can them blame someone else.
What would you call that if not cowardice?
I think there are different types of bravery. It is possible for somebody to be brave in one situation and to lack it in another.
We often think about bravery it physical terms, and would consider somebody like Jamie Peacock as being very brave. It could also be in terms of standing up for and sticking with what you believe in - and again, 10 out of 10 for JP. However, a reluctance to question what you believe in or have it questioned could conversely be seen as a lack of courage.
My concern when Peacock became our DoR was that people who have enjoyed as much success as he did as a RL player, in any field, tend to fall victim to their own mythology and believe in/focus on the nicest or most easily-admired reasons for their success. I do see some parallels with what he did at Rovers with some of what Sinfield has done at Leeds. I didn’t expect it, tbh - I thought there was maybe a subconscious ‘it’s only Hull KR, so they can be patient’ attitude with Peacock, whereas Sinfield would see Leeds as deserving and needing more immediate improvement. Also, Sinfield just seemed a bit more thoughtful and eloquent. There’s some consolation in seeing the damage of their apparent template for success being wreaked at its spiritual home, having endured its import to East Hull. Sorry - I was and seemingly still am a little bitter about it.
People are judged more on outcomes than their efforts and capabilities. I have sometimes wondered what would have happened after 2016 if we’d had just a bit more luck at any one of several key moments. Would Peacock’s plan have started to pay dividends, or was it just irredeemably flawed? Assuming you stay up, it’ll be interesting what happens next. Will KS learn and adapt or stick to his guns (which is braver? Is that the same as ‘best’?), will this season’s difficulties make your club stronger in the medium-term or is it going to need a long-term rebuild?
