Not sure about a fee, just getting his sizeable wedge off the cap would be an achievement.

Why is Thompson out of reach?
He'll come back to a SL club - why not us?
Wire bring Williams back from NRL and still splash the cash on the rest of the squad.
I don't see why not.
We need to stop thinking like a bottom half team.

Nadine Dorries though does remember luke Thompson kicking that memorable goal in the England world Cup win of 2003, what a moment

I’m guessing out of cap reach short term with walker, broadbent and Mellor out. But it’s a guess as the cap is a mystery.
Overall I agree with you, and going for fewer higher quality players would be my preference

Exactly!
We wouldn't bat an eyelid if Thompson signed for Saints, Wigan or Wire.
So why is he out of reach for us?
Think back to when we signed Peacock, Ellis, Senior, Webb, Buderus. Statement signings.
We need to get that mindset back, otherwise the malaise sets in at the club and we forever think that we're not good enough and the top table becomes a distant pipe dream.

I suppose at the minute it's also context, he's in contract and has only made noises of his intent to stay. The cap space freed so far also still doesn't get to those levels. Now if prior or Tetevano left we could feel a little more expectant in the quality and hopeful at least that we were heading the names linked to him if/when he does return.
