This seems odd and agree not what is being reported is my guess. Assuming he can even get back to the UK in the current climate why would you not give him compassionate leave? There were a number of rumours that Holbrook didn't want him. I'd heard he was having a good pre season but no real idea what that means.

If he can get back to his pre injury form then he is obvs a good player but don't see how he ends up back at Leeds.

Why would he not be able to get back to the UK? Airports are still operating. Moving to the other side of the World is tough for anyone, if someone in your family becomes seriously ill it’s understandable you’d have a change of heart.

I suspect Watkins has asked to terminate his contract rather than be given compassionate leave and it’s fair enough given the circumstances. I’m certain he will get a club over here.

Great player until a couple of years ago, but sadly I think he’s past it. Wish him and his family all the best, but don’t think his future is at HQ.

I said 'assuming' as I have long given up figuring out how and where you can travel so I have no idea how easy it is for him to get back.

I agree that if you need to come home you come home but I still don't see why compassionate leave is not more appropriate especially given the season is on hold.

I suspect the termination is more convenient for both parties and thats fine, sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't.

I agree he will get a club, it just won't be Leeds.

seeing how poor Gold Coast still look in the few games that were played i don't see him regretting the decision; hard to look good and get back to your best in a team of whipping boys.

hope his father pulls through and he finds a good move to end his career he deserves a break. i don't think it will be with us.

Seen this story in a few places, not that that particularly means much. I don't really understand the rationale here though. I know Toronto are currently based in the UK but a good portion of their time is also spent in Canada, not exactly close to home. I am also unsure how Toronto are financing this given their well documented salary gap issues.

I think one of the papers have the story too. But yes it's a strange one..
