Don’t get me wrong, I would prefer to see a more recognised coach in time for 2020.

To be honest I think the quality of the squad is a bigger limiting factor than the head coach at the moment. If we get the balance and quality right even some of us on here might coach Leeds to GF glory - and vice versa Wayne Bennett in his prime couldn’t make a champion side from what we were running with last year in particular.
We need the best of everything to build real success but we are pretty much starting from ground zero here - and Agar is doing a pretty good job in the circumstances so far.
Wigan will be a benchmark.

Appointing Agar anything beyond of this season would be an absolutely appalling decision imo and set us back many more years. Just because he has finally got us to put a little bit of effort in and grind out a couple of results against London and an injury hit Wakey in a monsoon does not make him the guy to lead us forward. The hope and expectation is the man who is coming in next has already been sounded out. This club needs a massive shake up and just plodding on with some cheap option like Agar is not good enough.

"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

I actually would love it if Agar was given the job and proved everyone on here wrong. Like Smith did back in the day and McDermott did for years on end.
Agar's clearly a good, solid coach who players really like playing for. I suspect Leeds are savvy enough to know he wouldn't be acceptable to the vocal minority so it's unlikely he'd be given the job but I suspect he would be thoroughly competent at it.

Agar has spent enough time in the sacking seat. If you want to have a career in RL, head coach is a tricky one long term. Lots of variables outside your control, huge pressure. I imagine he will gladly step aside when the time is right, unless we perform miracles this year.
Give him a break guys, we’ve shown some improvement and all we need for 2019 is to earn the right to still be in SL for 2020.

But Agar has never demonstrated that he can do it at the top level, despite time and opportunity. There's little benefit in a massive shake up of playing staff on the scale most of us want if you drop a mediocre coach in front of them. Hopefully he can do a solid job and tide us over until [insert guess here] arrives, and if we finish 11th or above he'd have our gratitude for many years.

What did Leeds Rhinos see in him when they appointed him to the position he had at Headingley before he stepped in as interim coach ? He must have some qualities in that field

He's cheap and listens to orders.
