It looks like Myler has been told he is free to find another opportunity, and there probably will be opportunities for him. Let’s hope a solution can be found which benefits both parties.
We can’t just break employment law at will. Contracts are binding, there are consequences legally and reputationally if you don’t honour them.
The only way out is to find a situation a new club/employer and the employee are also happy with, in order to voluntarily walk away from the original terms. We have managed that on a few occasions but players are within their rights to dig their heels in (which we have also seen).
It is not as simple as just “getting rid”. The key is not to offer contracts which are too long to the wrong kind of player in the first place, and begin with the end in mind - but then to be fair the club doesn’t have a crystal ball either.
