We are clearly significantly overpaying a lot of players. This, along with quota spots, is the reason why we can’t sign everyone being bandied about. We still need to get a huge amount of wage cap off this close season, assuming we stay up, and some of that will need to be negotiated as we don’t have huge amounts coming off contract.

This will take 2-3 years to resolve.

I wouldn't be surprised if Manfredi packs it in. Davies also has had a couple serious injuries, so perhaps Wigan are hedging their bets.

Who will play in the halves for Wigan next year, could they have singed French to play 6. Is he any relation to Gary?

Nail on the head here. Look at our side compared to Saints, Wire, Hull, Catalans, we are clearly overpaying several players to be upto the cap. Until they come off contract we are stuck with them on their current salaries.

Why do we assume that top players would want to join a team that has battled against relegation for 3 of the last 4 years?

It’s a point that is often overlooked I think.

The days have gone where Leeds where a good bet that you’d win something with them.

We do still have clout and influence, we can still offer quite a lot but it’s reduced from 10, even 5 years ago. We’re having to rely on the financial side of offers more than we used to.

Spot on, whilst Leeds are the 2nd biggest club in the league, the fact they’ve been in the bottom 8 3 out of the 4 last seasons shows a team very much struggling and on the decline, whilst you may be able to offer the same or more momey than others, you can’t offer the guarantee of competing for trophies every year like Saints Warrington and Wigan
