The problem with the likes of JJB in the squad is that Furner - like most coaches to be fair - will almost always opt for experience. Its the coach's safety blanket. Just like with a toddler the only thing to do to stop them using it is take it away.

The hardest part for players, as the autumn of their careers approach, is knowing when it’s time to stop, with JJB and Ablett they have been part of the fabric of a great trophy laden side, rightly or wrongly, it seems these trojans decide themselves when the boots must hang. It’s not football, players like these have earned this right, as fans we watch the fading embers disappear, and deep down we crave new blood, new talent, but the process takes time in rugby league.

It's a bit of a dilemma: fans don't want to see the mid-career journeymen dropped into the roles either. They'd much prefer the youngest talent dropped straight in. Not a recipe for short term success though and fans soon lose patience, usually with the coach.

I agree with this in general and think that JJB has been a bit self indulgent wanting to achieve 20 years but if the club were daft enough to go along with it then in some ways you can't blame him. I recall in an interview he referred to Steve Menzies' 20 year career and I think that is his motivation (to match it or even beat it).

In Ablett's case I am hopeful that he can still make a meaningful contribution and think that some of his jaded performances last year were down to being flogged and often playing busted. I know players regularly play with knocks but in his case I think an accumulation of injuries meant that he was nowhere near his best. If he can get back fit then he could still be an asset if used carefully.

Cameron Smith has confirmed on his Instagram he returns tomorrow.

Relegation rival Wigan have won tonight, this puts even more pressure on both teams to get a win tomorrow.

How $hit a 17 is that? Personally wouldn’t have Watkins anywhere near at the minute, so Sutty in purely for his defence (not that he’s great). I think we’ll get beat again, and no doubt Magsy will show us up.

Similar to Huddersfield hiwever we have had ti wirk a bit harder and Hull kr way better than Huddersfield was in first half, they will respond in second half and that's where we struggle to handle sides.

for those who were at the game, why so bad in the second halfs? fitness? concentration, poor subs?

Said last week, the attitude and mental aspect of this team is embarrassing for a group of Rugby league players. Soft and dumb, they think theyv cracked it after every decent game or decent half and never ever learn, despite continuously spouting rubbish about learning from how rubbish theyv been previously. Happy we won but my god.

Good first half but think Hull KR flattered us abit they were trash first half. Lolohea had his best game for us to date was impressed with his defence more than anything and he showed glimpses of magic making little half breaks in the opposition 20 but still looks a bit to heavy and not as quick as he needs to be, Walker has a good game back but picked up another injury I hope he's not another Stevie Ward a world class player but can only string together 10 games a season, Dwyer and Parcell were also go and if they had a consistent pack to play behind each week they would rip teams apart. We got the valuable 2 points but only just we just aren't right mentally to hold onto a big lead 28-0 up at start of second half we should be winning that game by 30+ but to only win by a try in the end is poor leadership, Myler was really poor today I thought silly errors, poor kicks and weak defence, We will not win any silverware with him being our main organiser we need to recruit a top class half if any become available for next season. At least we got the job done and keep creeping up that table, I'd settle for a 6th-9th place league finish this year and a decent cup run and then hopefully get back to competing at the top of super league next year. MOT!!! ALAW!!!!

Whilst I wasn’t there today, my guess would be a combination of poor players and mental weakness. I listened on the radio for to much of the second half and we hardly seemed to complete a set. Anyone threatens our line and we are so mentally weak we actually expect them to score rather than expecting ourselves to hold them out.



This bunch of players is done, very few of them will be around after the next season or two.

A wins a win, but it raises more questions than it answers.



Let's hope it gives us a bit more confidence and we can get a couple of wins together
