Why should Leeds (with an average home attendance still in excess of 15,000) choose to skimp on the playing squad and if they are/do will it have a negative impact on future income and prospects?

The stand is going to cost £6 million. That's a lot of dough. I'd expect belts to be tightened in many areas of the business, not just players salaries.

Maybe Mr Hetherington will repay some of his director's loan?

The Franchise system means the big clubs no longer have to invest in the squad to avoid relegation, so if the business decides it can save money on the playing/coaching side without taking too much of a hit on income then there is no risk to the business and if the board decide that is more important than silverware then there is nothing anyone else can do

The subsidisation of the Union club masks some costs that can be spread across both sides which otherwise the RL side would have to pay fully. All corporate overheads will likely be treated that way.
