Hoping not true. Just something seen on Twitter. If he was to go would free up some cap space and he's hardly played and when fit he probably should be in nrl.

I'd be very surprised if an NRL side was interested in Newman today. Apart from the obvious fitness concerns, British outside backs tend to struggle in the NRL - although its good to see Dom Young doing well. They generally lack physicality, and their defence needs a lot of work. If someone was looking at him it would be as a project signing - the equivalent of us going for Luis Roberts.

Rovers currently have Lewis, Milnes, Abdull & Schneider, and have now signed May.
Yet, there's a shortage of halves about.
There certainly is at Leeds.
Even Hudds have beaten us to a half.
Guaranteed Hull will announce one next.
These teams are our main competition to scrape 6th next season!

Think you’re underestimating NRL backs, and overestimating Newman. The lack of pass in Cc vs Wigan shows he’d be a project signing, no more. He’d never play again if did that over there…!!

He’d be worth a look. Right sort of age, seemingly the right attitude. A couple of ‘game management’ moments on his CV already. I’d actually argue he’s more what we need than Lewis, despite Lewis being the flashier name.

A lot probably depends on what KR do at fullback. Rumour was Hiku was signed to play there, but he’s a far better centre and now SKD confirmed retirement too. Assuming it could currently be Abdul and May with Lewis at fullback which still leaves Schneider the odd one out.

Haven’t they signed Gildart to cover centre.

Forgot about Gildart. Makes those halves positions even more tightly contested. 5 into 2 doesn’t exactly go considering May, Abdul and Lewis will all consider themselves starters.

Newman is massively overhyped, he has potential to be a great player and often shows signs of it when fit but he would struggle to get a game in the NRL at the moment. They have a conveyor belt of outside backs either better than him or equal to him.

Newman contracted till end of 2024 and no way an NRL team would pay a fee for him based on his injury record last few years. If Leeds agreed to release him for free he might get a year with the option of an extension based on appearances. No reason why we would do that as we already have loads of cap space and marquee spots unfulfilled but who knows at the moment it might happen and him turn up at Wigan the following year. . More likely is that he has an NRL option for 2025 that is dependent on him proving his fitness over a full season in 2024 with Leeds.
