bielsa was obsessed with james. nobody else at leeds was.
bielsa bought koch and played him.anywhere but CB.
bielsa bought rodrigo and simply never played him.
bielsa bought firpo who is, and has always been, garbage.
llorente started ok but has got more and more erratic.
most of marsch signings have been good but he needs to sort the defence out I agree. although there has been a lot of individual errors you cant account for.it was awful under bielsa and nothing has changed

Cresswell being recalled from loan. He's struggled for regular starts at Millwall, so Leeds are going to loan him to another championship club.

Lewis Bate didn`t look too bad against Arsenal last night.
Forgot about him and Gray.
Both need to bulk up a bit though but both very promising players.
We could look something like this in the future which I know will never happen of course.
Messlier
Drameh, Cresswell, Hjelde, Wober
Gnonto,Adams, Bate/Greenwood, Gray/Gyabi, Sinestera
Perkins/Rutter/Joseph

some cracking attacking players in our squad but the defence is a huge weak area.
I'd like the new coach, whoever it is, to be someone who is a defensive specialist.
cant see it though

Re: The ONLY LUFC Football Thread : Tue Jan 10, 2023 7:46 pm
I think our defence looks worse at times because we can’t keep the ball and there’s system issues that have just not worked. Teams too easily cut through with a simple direct pass / run. The centre backs look like they don’t know what day of week it is at times. Add to that we’ve not got a left back that is Prem standard.

Hopefully with Wober coming in and Rutter plus a midfielder that will massively help and confidence will grow. Marsch has signed some good players but it needs to gel soon.

that's fair comment but I do think they could be far better organised though

Re: The ONLY LUFC Football Thread : Tue Jan 10, 2023 7:57 pm
The way we play will always allow other teams to score against us.
All it takes is for the opposition to engage our midfield from their own half as our defence moves up.
A long ball over the top straight away gives the opposition an attacking option that we sometimes scramble back to cover or we concede.
Whilst we are much better organised than we were under Bielsa. We are still too gung ho and attack minded which again is fine if we can score 3 goals every match.

It's an odd one because I've heard Marsch say several times that the problems lie because we're not aggressive enough, I suspect that means not closing down well enough and being a bit too nervy with the ball. The system played (though he has switched to 433 of late at times) means that the LB/RBs get caught out far too easily if they're either caught up field or not switched on and i think that's why Kristensens form has dipped, i think he's scared of getting caught out. Firpo can't defend (but is generally decent with the ball) and Struyik is just too slow.

You have to have very very good players in that position at this level and in that system. I suspect Wober will do well at LB, he looks decent on the ball, quicker than Struyik and good defensively. I also think he could possibly be our best CB if he played there.
