Look at it this way. At the start of the season, our specialist fullbacks and halves were Walker/Myler (fullback) and Gale, Lui and McLelland (halves). Now consider how many games those players have actually been fit to take part in. Our first choice option of Myler, Lui and Gale have not yet taken the field after 16 league matches. The club clearly don't want to countenance that happening again, hence the decision to add both depth and quality in the form of Sezer and Austin. Real competition for places will drive the standards up to.

Why would Warrington release Austin this season if they have managed to sign Williams while Austin is still at the club? Surely that means there are no salary cap issues, so why let him go to a team there is a chance they could meet in the playoffs.

Not only that but Gale will be 34/35 by end of next season and i can't see him staying much beyond then, so Austin (who'd be 31/32 by then) would be a ready made replacement in the halves.

Because at that point, they’ll have Widdop back too.

But why risk strengthening a potential rival if they don't have too?
Austin may not be starting if Widdop and Williams are fit, but what if either pick up an injury leading into the playoffs, he would be required then. Apart from saving a few months wages I don't see what is in it for Warrington, unless we were paying a transfer fee. Which would be crazy if he is available for nothing in October.

Austn will not be here this year, the only mention of it is on the rumour boards and I'll bet isn't even being discussed between club and agents.
The only way it could possibly happen is if we take someone off the OQ register and that would mean paying off Lui, highly unlikely even if Lui accepts it

We have the salary cap space and might need to grease the wheels a bit with Warrington but it's not inconceivable.

I would be surprised if it happened, but Peter Smith was suggesting it wasn't out of the question the other day. If Lui can't get himself fit I think the club will give it a try.
