Is Newman off contract at the end of 24 or 25?
Problem is with Newman fitness is suspect to say the least. If off contract end of 24 can’t see him getting an offer as would have to be made by 1st May so can’t prove his fitness. If off contract end of 25 offer an extension based on play minimum of 75% of next year. Either way think another centre needed next season plus half back and prop. Thompson would be ace!

I disagree on Newman. He's only shown flashes and isn't the complete package, but SL just doesn't produce many quality centres, and I'd persevere for a fair while yet. In any event, even if we could put 'options' to him, we'd be competing against other clubs who would most likely offer him a straight deal, as he's certainly worth a punt.

Yep. A lot of Rugby for him to play before the end of next (and hopefully) this year.

If and its a big IF, Newman can stay injury free for a sustained period of time he could be one of the best players in either the SL or NRL, I rate him that highly, however I’m not sure it will happen.

I agree about the SL bit but not the NRL, he would just be another player over there.

I wouldnt be looking to offload him if he has another injury ridden season, loads of young players have many injuries and come back from it. I wouldnt want to risk letting him go yet and him becoming injury free.

I think I'd still resign him but only for two years over 3-4 or 5.

If NRL do come knocking it won't matter how long the deal is and,if he spends another two years or so playing 40-50% of games we are in a better position

I doubt NRL clubs would seriously look at him until he's injury free. The track record of British outside backs is not good. Newman's game is based on his strength and speed, and I don't think it would translate very well unless he bulks up a fair bit. Also his defence just isn't good enough.
