Myler is contracted in any case, so should be here for 2024 come what may. My fear is that unless we are ruthless and ambitious this year we'll have our hands tied for 2025. If Austin signs for two, we can’t move him on, Fusitua the same. Lisone has already extended, so opportunities to recruit players from the best league in the world are limited. If the domestic competition routinely produced talent in the spine positions I wouldn't be bothered, but it doesn't. I've got nothing against Myler by the way. He'd be close to, if not my player of the season.

Lisone is starting to show he is one of those top end nrl recruits and fusitua is likewise if he can stay fit. Austin is at the minute one of the top halves the comp so I don't see why we would be moving them on. Tetevano and sezer would free up a fair whack between them and 2 quota spots, that's plenty to make a difference with the right signings.

Yep. And that's fine for 2024, but what about 25? If your NRL contingent is largely contracted, your hands are pretty much tied. Will be interesting to see who we recruit in the coming weeks/ months. Whoever it is they'll need to make a big difference.

Hopefully we don't need to go with the mindset of changing them every year and aim for some stability. Austin deserves 2 years, Lisone especially is at an age that he does too, fusitua is one of the best in the comp at what he does and like Tom Johnstone can get past previous injuries. Recruit real quality in place of sezer and Tetevano and we've a strong settled overseas group for a couple of years. I think a 2 year contract for players who are playing well isn't unreasonable.

Fusitua as good as Tom Johnson are you for real? If we resigned all of the overpaid overseas we are rewarding mediocrity and will be bottom half table team until we start cracking the whip and bringing some top quality in.

Fus could be part of a winning team we just need a side that can get him some opportunities rather than just use him as a battering ram - he is quite skilful although I’ve rarely seen a player with worse body language on the pitch!

I disagree on 2 years for Austin; remember how awful he has been and cost us some games too. Just because he’s had two MoMs and can look a worldly at times; one of our big issues is consistency and Austin has been part of that over a while now. 1 year maybe with an option - if he is genuinely good around the place otherwise.

I do like the good version of Austin very much but just pulling it out when you need a new contract doesn’t impress me personally.

A valid point but also a cert that someone will offer him 2 years if we don't. There simply aren't enough decent halves to fill the 24 starting berths in SL. Which probably would leave us looking for 2 halves with no guarantee of even finding one. On balance I'd give him 2 years if there was no other way.

We have to replace at least one of the 1,6 and 7 at the end of the season. Much too high risk to get to the end of next year and face having to replace all three. None of them are going to get better, and more injuries and generally slowing down is likely to affect them more and more.

We should definitely try to get a younger halfback in, and while I know Myler is contracted, I'd still look to sign a more athletic fullback if one was available, especially if they can play other positions.

I think Austin has been good all year wakey aside even when the teams not performed. Not forgetting he's hardly had a settled half partner til now either.
