It points to poor leadership at the top, poor recruitment and poor coaching. Quite the mix! For this club to be even talked about in a relegation battle as we have done in some recent seasons is simply ridiculous and tells you all you need to know.

in a way I feel sorry for smith.
he is too inexperienced and , at the moment, nowhere near good enough. that's not his fault its yet another bad appointment from hetherington

Penny for Hetheringtons thoughts though..... especially after recent seasons. He must have thought he hit the jackpot last season with the GF appearance.. I'm not ready to write Smith off quite yet personally but the proof will be in the pudding and it is a gamble to leave him in charge to revamp the squad for next season given his recent recruits...

nobody has said its the coach personally, but I think it's fairly obvious it's more how he wants them to play. and I can't see many wanting to play that way.
as for replace them all history has proved it's easier to replace one.

Not convinced Lance was a top coach.I remberh saying he didn't change much from Murrays coaching and then went on to change nearly everything.

We'd never seen sustained success like the goldens and I can see how we all as a club and supporters wanted to hang on to that but its time to stop harking back to that and move on and create the "next" generation.

Yeah, the novelty has worn off im afraid. Its gone from strong and hard to overused and bruised.

After way too long we seem to have started really focusing on junior development, which long-term is the most proven way to deliver success. But it will take years to build a side that way - there are no short cuts.

The most pressing issues are whether Smith stays as coach, and recruitment for next year. Recruitment choices are more important in the short to medium term because they will decide if we can become genuinely competitive under any coach. We've got real cap space and the if we get it right can get players who quite simply will lift the team a few levels. Get it wrong and we'll be stuck with underperformers for another few years, and we've seen that with rubbish players it probably doesn't matter who the coach is.

I think GH will stick with Smith for next season. That makes the recruitment even more important. If Smith is the real deal we'll see it next season. If not and he goes, we'll at least have some decent players for the next coach.
