One of the most over hyped halves of recent times and overpaid given the size of contract he signed after showing so much early promise, compared to what he’s offered on the pitch recently, albeit he plays for Wests who are a poor team.

Would have to take a massive wage cut to come to SL and recent sources in Aus state his preference is to stay in the NRL and his coach has talked about wanting to offer him a new deal as well.

I suspect it’s usual ‘agent talk’ to start rumours about SL interest in the hope of securing a new NRL deal.

This will go one of two ways (if he comes to SL) and both will/could end badly for us.

1. His form doesn’t improve in SL and he stinks the place out and we are left with another highly paid NRL dud, or
2. He gets his confidence and form back and gets selected in the SL dream team but that ignites new interest from the NRL and even if he’s on a 4 year contract with us, he/his agent play the ‘homesick card’ and he leaves us early leaving us having to source yet another HB to build our team around

You could say that is the same risk with any overseas signing but we’d be bringing him over (if we do) on the basis of what he once was and what he might hopefully get back to in our comp form and enjoyment wise as he gets so much stick from the Aussie press for his performances/lack of.

Whoever leaves, the club are going to have to be busy in both SL and NRL transfer markets. We only have three quota spots available (assuming Austin stays) and we've already been linked with Fitzgibbon, a second rower, and Brooks, a half. That leaves us with full back, centre and prop on the shopping list with only one quota space left. It sounds horrible to say it, but I'd be keeping a close eye on goings on at Salford. The likes of Dupree, Watkins, Ackers and Croft might yet be available especially if a transfer fee is paid.

I’d prefer to have the best of British, but from where we are at the moment that’s probably not possible. We need to be a genuine shot at winning things for that to happen. We need to match up the roles we think we can fill internally, with signing the best British players we can, topped off with some select overseas players that give us what we can’t get over here.

Agree Arthur. We always used to be very good at poaching good talent from other SL clubs. Need to rediscover our form for that imo

1 - Daine Laurie (Wests) - replaces Fusit'ua
2 - Jayden Okunbor (Bulldogs) - replaces Lisone
4 - Patrick Herbert (still hasnt signed anywhere?) or Brian Kelly (Titans) would be good - replaces Tetevano
6 - Luke Brooks (Wests) - replaces Sezer

It looks like Jack Ashworth wont resign with Hudds and has been linked with us previously... likewise Ben Nakubuwai (replace Lisone/centre)

Of course we also would have to consider NSW/QLD Cup bolters that Smith knows well and would be less $$ and risk.

Okunbor has been playing more as a forward off the bench this year hasn’t he? On the basis he was error prone on the wing.

That's only £500k sterling.
£250k per year.
We're paying that for marquee players aren't we??

Indeed and it’s why the salary cap needs increasing significantly over here in the near future as we’ll also lose all our best young talent

1m a year, or 1m over 2 years? 1m Australian is around £500k, so could be doable over 2 years.
