Just have to rely on grass roots production,’which isn’t a bad thing. International team is really strong too with Radley, Young,
Farnworth ripping it up in NRL…..

Aside from the obvious financial considerations, without a strong and well financed SL future international hopefuls may well believe their only hope of playing at an international level is by being in the NRL

The latest move by the NRL to provide cap exemption for overseas players could see that move speeded up.

I'm not saying that the game here is in the last chance saloon but the next few years could well prove pivotal for its future.

Think in order to even give Oz a game we need the best players in the NRL. That’s the reality…..

Due to the issues RU are now having and our own problems I can see some sort of hybrid game of rugby coming to the fore within the next 10 years.
The lure of the $ in Australia is not going to help our game anytime soon as reasonably good players will see it as financial security for them and their family.

At the moment, possibly (probably). But surely the 12 year IMG deal is designed to improve the quality and depth of the game here, including better development and retention of the undoubted talent we have. That means increasing the cap. It's not a magic bullet, of course, but it needs to happen and quickly.

I keep hearing how some clubs can't afford to spend up to the cap now, so what good would increasing it do? Again, the IMG deal would need to address that, but increasing revenues without increasing the cap is in itself pointless. We're currently engaged in a race to the bottom.

However, if we're simply going to throw our hand in the air and and say its all too hard then we can carry on as we are in an increasingly rapid downward spiral.

You've got to look at the sponsors of the game to show where the game currently sits, Glens Vodka and Bachelors Soup being prime examples.

There's just not the interest in the game to produce enough money to compete with the NRL, as much as we'd all love RL to be Englands biggest sport or just even a bigger sport, its just not going to happen.

The blue chip advertisers aren't interested in RL because the main demographic of RL fan isn't attractive to them, as they don't have much disposable income. They know the product is good, but the people watching it aren't lucrative customers.

On the NRL salary cap dispensation. It applies to Australian RU players and overseas RU players. Not overseas RL players.

Ah, ok, my mistake. It doesn't take much of a leap for it to be extended to RL though, and we shouldn't wait until it is.

I feel the same way, good luck to the players that want to go to the NRL and test themselves. I understand SL is an inferior league and I'm ok with that.
