just read it on the athletic. good as he is I'd have preferred £25m to be spent on a quality central midfielder

Agree and think we`ve slipped up there with James.
He is nowhere near a 25m player and there`s much better out there for that money.
But once again Bielsa wants him and he gets what he wants.

We have Roberts, Rodrigo, Dallas, Klich, Phillips, Forshaw, Shackleton and Koch who can play in midfield. We have Harrison, Raphinha, Costa in the first team squad who can play on the wing. Yes, Summerville looks a great prospect, but is he good enough to step up consistently over an an extended period at this stage in his development?
Also, it obviously comes down to value for money. Obviously, the money was always there, but the club obviously didn't think the players we were linked with (like O'Brien) we worth the asking price. So for the club to pay this amount of money for James, they obviously think he's worth it.
When you think that he's a British international coming from one of the biggest clubs in the world and has champions league experience, you can make the case for the fee.

rodrigo is a forward.
koch a centre half.
Roberts is poor.
klich coming to the end, possibly his last year.
shackleton I rate but needs a run.
Phillip's enough said.
dallas a jack of all trades.
forshaw been injured 2 years.
a bit of out and out quality in there would be welcome imo

Obviously, Bielsa would like a CM, otherwise we wouldn't have tried to sign Cuisance, Gallagher and O'Brien, however, Bielsa also clearly thinks the players listed are all capable of playing in midfield, and in the cases of Klich, Forshaw and Rodrigo, he's a huge fan, so as far as he's concerned, he probably doesn't think another CM is more of a priority than a winger at the moment, if he did we'd have stumped up the cash for O'Brien.

Whilst Bielsa has far more managerial experience than I have!!
I don`t think playing Rodrigo in midfield is working.
He`s a an and out forward imo
In agreement with Tad on the other players.
When you think there`s Edourd at 15mil, Drinkwater on a loan, Ryan Christie from Celtic and Hourihane from Villa also on loan that we could have got in for less than the 25mill we are paying for James.
Not all world beaters I know but nor is James.

Agree but I don’t think there was one available for what we wanted to pay. We tried for Gallagher but he didn’t want to come. We needed better quality out wide in the squad and bringing in James gives us that. The next signing whenever that is will be a Midfield
