Last season has obviously raised people's expectations, but really, the plan was probably to survive and consolidate for another season again before spending big again next summer. But, because we finished 9th last season, a 12th place finish for example seems like regression, but it's probably a fair reflection of where we currently are.

Agree completely. We over achieved last year imo. I’d snap their hands off at 12th given the poor recruitment so far. We’re much better than the bottom 3rd of the league and I’m fully confident. But we have to be careful. Sheffield Utd are an example of what can happen in a second season when you don’t continue to recruit well. It’s risky to stand still

The aim was European football in the third season.

sheff utd had an awful end to there first season, had a team of ageing championship players, and spent £60m badly. our recruitment was done last year. Kinnear said this year is all about consolidation.

That`s a fair assessment.
Had we finished just above the relegation zone and 12th/13th this year it looks good.
But my worry is if we don`t get the 2 or 3 quality players this season we might end up in a relegation battle. making it harder to recruit in season 3 when we are planning for European football.

You will beat the sticky toffees they are a mickey mouse club also. Theyve spent £1.5m this off season lol. Got a top manager in Benitez tho how they attracted Rafa and Ancelloti lord only knows.
