I'm not sure why Leeming is getting a bashing. When we're on the front foot he can be as good as any hooker around. He struggles when we're not, and his defence is a bit shaky. Both areas where O'Connor looks more robust. But they look quite complimentary to me. His defence is the one thing he absolutely needs to improve on, but with hopefully a better set of props around him he may not be as exposed in any event.

Sone people on here have been building him up as the next big thing, and are not backing down even though when he has played he’s looked out of his depth. Trying to now make out he’s not been given a chance to save face.
Johnson wont be at Leeds or in super league past 2023.he’s simply not good enough, think Jonah parsons may be the next in line.

That sums it up to me. We have a 27 year old captain in his physical prime who needs to improve his defence, a young "converted" hooker who does the tough stuff but lacks fluency, and another young hooker who was considered one of the hottest prospects in the game but hasn't broken any pots in his senior appearances. Maybe the answer isn't any of them. Given the salary cap we are likely to have available for 2024 we could look to target the best hooker available on the market. That's why I think this year the pressure is on our nines to deliver, otherwise two could easily leave.

fully agree. leemings management is the issue for me. picks wrong pass or takes the wrong option too often

I think Leeming gets two involved at hooker as if he is a half back. He likes everything to go through him rather than simply, pass well, tackle hard and scoot only when it is on.

Johnson and Leeming are both under contract until 2024, not that it means they can’t be moved.

Think it’s clear Leeming needs to work on contact in defence and decision making. The latter should be helped if both halves do more telling him what they want.

Johnson looked very promising as a junior but all the time out and 7 appearances in 3 and a bit years means we are not much wiser. Fingers crossed him and Walters can have similar break through years to O’Connor last year. There were a few signs of Walters stepping up.
Rohan wants competition for places so places in the 17 need to be earned and rightly so.

I’d guess Leeming will be the first name to replace Austin or Sezer if injured

Re Johnson he has had commitment issues to the game in general, and injuries too since being re-signed.

He is one of the best youth hookers I’ve personally seen, probably since Matt Diskin.

Of course he may not end up fulfilling his potential but talent wise the lad had it all.

The very first requirement of a hooker is to be able to pass accurately short or long from the floor. Only one of our hookers can do this. Any hooker who cannot do this, shouldn’t be a long term option for us.

After that there’s a thousand other things they need to be able to do, and we don’t seem to have anyone who is more than competent at the skills and technique who has enough of them. I can see a new hooker coming in for 2024.

OConnor having a full preseason with Hooker in mind and Leeming having a good back up hooker to share the workload might work for both.

My issue with Leeming is similar to what others have mentioned already.
CJ, like Holroyd etc need to play more often and really put big shifts in.
Wether that's in the first team or on loan to wherever
