Might be obvious but didn't the golden era start a group of kids that turned out to be exceptional along with some brilliant signings i.e. big ALI

Judging by his comments in the YEP GH seemed entirely unhappy with the Boxing Day performance. I just don't see how he expects the current team and coaches to turn things around in such a huge way that we can compete to win anything. The defensive highlights from Boxing Day look remarkably similar to the shambles seen so often in 2016.

Doesn't count as it was "nearly" an opposed training run anyway despite previous attempts to talk it up & highlight last years failure as a starting point towards 2016's season of woes.

I don't remember GH in the past being particularly concerned with Boxing Day games. Which is understandable as previously they have literally meant nothing in terms of a guide to the coming year.

What comes across is that this year GH had being hoping to see early signs that things were moving in the right direction, and that the performance vs Wakey was entirely worrying.

He probably isn't concerned with this Boxing Day game either but knows he has to do a bit of PR firefighting because too many grown men have wet themselves over a non comment from McDermott.

My take on the Boxing Day game (i have really left it alone because it isn't normally the be all and end all) is that after such a poor season by Leeds standards that game should have been used, infront of a healthy crowd, as a showcase of the intentions of this season. With it being more of the same clueless dredge, all it has created is more pessimism from the paying fans. I really hope Mac has something fresh up his sleeve being held back and the players come barging out of the gate at Saints on the opening day and look a real team once again, but all signs point to mediocrity and a slog of a season ahead.

McDermott is going. I actually think he is more relaxed because of it, and seems to have let the shackles go. He apparently asked to finish the season, and that is what they agreed.

Alternatively he watched the game & thought WTAF have they been doing since they came back?
As for the "non-comment" there is more concern over the "non-performance" & blatant "non improvement" despite the previous build up he & in particular his Head Coach gave the game. :DRUNK:

I think that sums it up pretty well for me. The only thing I'd say in defence of BM and the coaching squad is that they should know where the squad are in terms of being ready and maybe they didn't want to risk some of the older players in a meaningless game. That said they should have sent a squad out who at least gave it a good go and looked like they had a collective clue.
