Insurance, the club likely claims on insurance for things like sporting related surgery. If the insurance policy doesn't cover Heart Surgery then the club wouldn't expect to pay and probably rightly so in my opinion.
When you consider how much the club wastes across the board in box ticking exercises etc, you would have thought the most comprehensive insurance cover available would have been deployed for the most important assets the club has. I’m sure word has spread back in Oz that although player welfare is seemingly utmost in the club’s priorities it’s not actually the case. When push comes to shove, a relatively small amount for a club to cover, compared to a sizeable amount for an individual player, is not forthcoming when certain situations arise. The op wouldn’t have cost much more than a knee reconstruction in the scheme of things, and I’m not surprised Tetevano was peed off. Thankfully it’s not a common occurrence what happened to Zane, but bearing in mind around 25% of us are currently walking around with some kind of hole in our heart it’s a sobering thought.
