Don't be so pious....IF it was my job to be responsible for player recruitment I would be privy to all of the facts and I would apply considered lengthy thought before making any changes.

However, as it is ALL of us on here have no real idea of the facts ( I do think fans should be given more information or maybe we should just continue to rely on rumours and/or speculation from journalists ).... therefore all we can do here is treat this forum as a bit of fun - which I do.

You need to lighten up.

When I made the comment in another thread about poor retention decisions, McShane's new contract was one I had in mind. As others have said, McDermott doesn't seem convinced so why offer him such a long term deal in the first place? It's not like he has been an integral part of the club's recent successes.

Can't blame the kid for wanting out the way he's been treated, But I can't help thinking there must be a reason why. He's never kicked on to be the player we thought he could be for one reason or the other. If he wants out let him go, we've got burrow and lunt for the rest of this season at least then Hood as back up who will be ready for nxt year.

Agreed, my thoughts also. It certainly raised a few eyebrows when Leeds gave him a 4 yr deal.. imo he's not quite good enough for us but i'm no coach.. just a fan with an opinion

I'd also like to add Lunt has imo looked better at hooker than Mcshane has.. I can see Lunt being made permenant next yr and Mcshane being transferred elswhere.. we'd surely get a fee given his age and contract length.. should someone be willing to pay that is...

Totally agree with all this, I don't think Gary H will let another hooker go mid contract for nothing again.

Then again he might, just to free up the cap space.

I'll repeat what I have said since last year. I spoke to James Lowes last season when McShane was out of the picture and people were making up assumptions. He said that both him and McDermott thought very highly of McShane and believed he would be a very good player.

I told him at the time, that I have my doubts and I was unsure on him. Also saying what how ridiculous it would be to let Buderus go home early, let alone with out a proven replacement. As I said on the thread the other week, McShane for me is just like Dean Lawford, all the potential and ability to do it, but just can't seem to manage it on the pitch. Somebody who can harness that talent will have a good player.

I wanted Leeds to sign Lunt before they signed him, and was always impressed. But before people start running away about a permanent signing, he's been given an opportunity. At the moment he looked excellent in his first game, very excellent, but not sure he's shown anything like since just yet.

You can't keep them all and you certainly can't keep them all happy.

With the direction we've gone in at half back (whether you agree with it or not) that leaves Burrow, Lunt (for this season), McShane and Hood. Hood is further behind in his career than McShane and I suspect will accept fewer opportunities in our 1st team because of it. I'd imagine McShane feels he's been unfairly treated.

It could also easily be the case that Lowes and Mcdermott do rate him highly, just not as highly as Burrow and Lunt. Whilst the coaches would no doubt like to stockpile players in every position the fact is the players not getting selected won't be happy. Sometimes, in a team environment, you can have addition by subtraction, if you take a miserable player out of the equation.

I think McShane should move on for his and Leeds sake.

None of this explains McDermotts substitute strategy, btw, which still remains a confusion at times.
