I’m happy keeping Luke Briscoe (i think hes gone ok) if it means we can spend money elsewhere I thinkbthe wing is the leadt of our problems for next year.

IMO we need quality signings that will immediately improve our side for 2019, and of the 2 overseas signing's that I believe are on our radar:

I would be very happy if we signed Justin O'Neill from North Queensland as he would form a pretty formidable attacking threat alongside Kallum Watkins and actually give us some strike options out wide, both would also offer good service to their winger's too so I'm not too disheartened if we don't immediately replace Ryan Hall with an overseas player

I also think that Shaun Fensom would actually do a great job for us as we urgently require players that can do the dirty stuff in the back row and rack up the tackles

As a club IMO we are probably looking at a 3 year plan moving forward so If Dom Crosby isn't chasing big bucks then I wouldn't mind us signing him on permanently as he does a good old fashioned prop's role of no frills straight up and at em drives,He will also buy time for Oledzki and Holroyd to be given opportunities next season

I'm more than happy looking at the likes of Newman,Trout,Holroyd,Johnson, A Sutcliffe, Dupree & Broadbent filling the roles that the previous project players like Yates & Ormandroyd occupied without serving any real purpose to our squad

Is Fenson a better player than Jason Clark (Warrington bound)

Depends what you want from your plodder. If you want an undersized prop/glacial second row, Clark's your man. if you want a workhorse as injury-prone as Stevie Ward but 5 years older, then go for Fensom. They will both check the '30 years+' box by next season though, so its hard to separate them on that score.

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Re: Transfer Talk / Rumour Thread V2 : Wed Oct 03, 2018 7:06 am
So neither would be your advice, interesting.

I'm pretty sure that with the right coaching and attitude most of our defensive problems can be solved with virtually the current group of players. I wouldn't be looking for a forward who has little to no threat with the ball but can tackle. We need to have the right defensive systems and attitude in place, and to be signing players who can carry a threat with the ball. Being able to tackle is a fundamental for being a pro rugby player.

People will be disappointed when they see Fensom, he has absolutely no attacking game at all. He tries hard in defence but he is the type of player SL clubs should not be buying in.

Im pretty underwhelmed by this rumoured arrival but the above could have been said about Glanville & he was excellent for us.

if we could get 2 or 3 Glanville clones we would be alright, not the biggest quickest most skillful, but hit everything that moved and no hard man but tough as teak

Regarding Fensom I fully respect people's opinions of him, some of which are not too praiseworthy

But IMO we are in a big transition period and we urgently need to re-build a "team" and to do that we will have to incorporate lots of different types of players to do so.

Some of which will need to be able to offer far more in attack than what we currently possess and some will need to be able to bend their back's and do some tough defence.

Somewhere along the line the make up of our new squad/side will have player's that complement one another and will hopefully enable us to form a successful "team"

As Mark mentioned previously regarding Marc Glanville not being the eye catching signing that we were hoping for at the time, neither was he the flashiest player going forward,But he certainly earned respect with what he added to our "team" during his 2 year stint at the club.
His hard graft and tough defence allowed powder puff players like Andy Hay to shine in attack, when Hay simply couldn't tackle a hot dinner and was regarded as a renowned shirt puller.

Furner has previously coached Fensom at both the Raiders and the Cowboys so I would imagine that "IF" Fensom actually signs for Leeds that he has fully endorsed his signing and believes that he will be a great addition to our club

I'm happy to give Furner a chance to rebuild our club's fortunes and to bring his choice of players in to do so
