Not good enough, but we will get better. The major difference today was finishing - they scored 3 very good goals with shots that couldn't really have been hit much better - our one decent chance from Howson was hit very well but went straight at the keeper, and the least said about Paynter's effort the better - despite being clean through I never though for a second that he'd score.
To their credit, Southampton played pretty well - there will be much worse teams in the league than them this year. We badly need one or two more signings before the end of the transfer window otherwise it's going to be a mid table struggle. I don't see us being relegated though.
