Why do football managers always remind me of second hand car dealers - the sort you see setting up their banners and bunting on bits of waste ground with a portacabin for an office and a collection of cars that you wouldn't steal if they left the keys in them and you had ten miles to walk home after your last bus had gone ?
When football managers enter the football player transfer market do they speak of "good runners" or "lets do a deal", are transfer fees done in cash or do they arrange finance with a company you've never heard of and who don't do credit checks because they employ some big blokes to collect their brass every month ?
Do football club owners get involved because their legitimate businesses are actually run by lawyers and accountants and running a football club makes them feel dirty all over again, are football club owners just market traders at heart who prefer a reserved parking space and an expensive goldfish tank in their office rather than having to get up at 5am to set up a fruit & veg stall at the back of Leeds market ?
