Sutcliffe is a centre, that is clearly his best position and his squad number would suggest we see him as a centre. If everybody is fit he plays centre. We also have Simpson and edwards in the squad next year who are both centres. Now I appreciate you may not think Sutcliffe is good enough, you may not think edwards and Simpson are ready. However, that doesn’t mean we have no centres. At best we don’t have good enough centres.
We also are likely to retain hardaker next year who can play centre to a fairly high level. So we have potentially 5 options at centre in our squad next year.
We are desperate for props, literally desperate for more size, grunt and power in the middle of the pitch. We have shown we can score points since smith came in, a lot of which come via our outside backs. So we can say with some supportive evidence that scoring points and attacking threat isn’t our biggest issue since smith came in.
Yet it would in your opinion be a good idea to get a 33 year old centre as potentially a sixth centre in the squad. We may have some cap but he probably won’t come cheap so we potentially don’t add the size, power and grunt we so clearly need and instead get a 33 year old overseas centre who is leaving Huddersfield.
But you are totally right, what’s the problem?
