Good news. I hope he continues to kick on from the injury, and put the hard work in. He's not the finished article yet, and there were occasional signs that he's guilty of believing his own hype last season. We need him to mature as well as build on his obvious physical attributes and natural talent.

Yeah I agree he's not there yet. The thing with Newman is that he has such a competitive attitude and he has a bit of swagger. He's always had that self-belief and as long as he keeps in check, it's not such a bad thing.

Three years is quite a long time in this game - he is a potential future England international, if he makes further improvements. We do have some other really talented centres coming through though. If he did go elsewhere after 3 years I'd be pretty confident we might have a decent Plan B by then.

Wouldn't blame him for wanting a crack at NRL - but the standard of their outside backs is generally sky high compared to SL.

Excellent news. His attitude, determination and competitiveness makes him the player he is.

I am confident that if he stays injury free and gets a good run of games that he will become an even better player.

Sounds as if it wasn’t a straightforward one! Newman saying he looked at options in the NRL and Rugby Union, so im pleased hes signed, a rare talent IMO

Not read his interview on it yet, that's an interesting one and he's most definitely wise not going to NRL yet, he is nowhere near that level yet and would have been back in 6 months.

He reminds me of a young Newlove too, very very good talent, hopefully he has a good 5 or 6 years more with us.

Crazy he's still only 21 isn't it? He should be nearing peak once this new deal expires.

Good points. It's exactly this that I think Kallum Watkins lacked. Yes, he was a great player, but never truly reached the world class heights his career could have done if he had the same attitude.

Sometimes the best in any sport needs a bit of ego, kept in check, and that ridiculous drive/competitive nature. I think Danny McGuire actually had the perfect balance of this too.

Looking for a weak spot in the defence is one thing, but he needs to spend a hell of a lot less time going sideways to be talked about in terms of being NRL level.

2 decent halves on the field will do wonders for his directness and his linebreaking. I reckon we'll be seeing something we've not seen in a Leeds shirt for quite some time.

Well with Fusitu'a on his wing, this is the time to really learn how to create space and pass to the outside. If we get the balance right between Austin, Martin, Newman and Fusitu'a working that side with occasional Myler it could be a potent combination - you can't clock off any one of those players in D. If the ball goes to Newman and he tries to run through the entire opposition every time then not so much of a threat.

I'd really like to see him develop his team play this season. We can't only use Fusitu'a for high kicks from Austin, it would be a criminal waste IMO.
