Flip that on its head and consider that with fourteen games of the season gone the club as yet to field both its first choice half backs (Gale and Lui) in the same line up. Add that the 3rd choice (McLelland), who looks destined to leave in any case, has only just come back into contention. Could not blame them for wanting to make sure that did not happen again.

You dont spend that amount of money on those three unless you plan to play them all pretty much every week.Therefore austin must be thought of as someone who can play fullback/wing/centre to a very high level.

Think he would play every week as either full back, stand off or impact off bench. Let's face it, the club did OK last time we had three top halves (McGuire, Sinfield and Burrow) in the 17. Maybe they want to break away from having two hookers every week and might be thinking Bentley - who has done it for Saints -might give Leeming/Dywer a breather. Not saying all this is so, but there is a dearth of good halves in the game and we have no apparent successors in the 1st team squad as yet. It has a certain logic.

Fullback does stand out as the most obvious position for him but would he be a better bet than myler or a fully fit walker? He would need to be given the massive slice of cap it would take to get him. I'd considered the hooker role but that would be bit part at best and I wonder a)whether he'd be up for it (given the attention from HKR) and b) we might have a fully fit johnson to try and fit in somewhere.

I bow to the club's superior knowledge on this one although I can't help thinking how good a fit jai field would look in our squad.

Until we know what`s happening with Gale it is all speculation.
For all we know the club might be talking to Austin to give Gale a kick up the aris and have no intention of buying him.
Signing Austin and keeping Gale along with Sezer to play centre, wing or FB smacks like a waste of money to me.
Let`s see what happens with Gale over these next two games.

The austin thing must have been in the pipeline for quite a while though so unless they think he's past it or is too disruptive and want rid I can't see why we would go for austin. I agree with the 'let's see what happens' attitude,I wasn't that bothered about signing thompson,king or Donaldson are they've turned out ok.

If he's signing to be a half back Great. If he's signing to be a utility then not so good. Need out and out wingers/centres. Got too many jack of all trades. Would love to see some real pace where if you break the line they're in under the sticks

If and it's a big if Austin did sign for Leeds then I can see Gale asking for a move. I doubt Gale late into his career would want to be sitting in the stand. For mine the: ream team would be more balanced with a Sezer Austin partnership then a Gale Sezer partnership.Austin is an out and out 6.Walker will battle Myler for the fullback spot.We have good options at centre so Austin wouldn't be used there.
