Did McGuire have a bad game or did he beat an old lady? the reaction on rlfans is ridiculous, just watching the highlights again on iplayer and no matter who was on that right hand side they would have had a new @rsehole, unless you think Lockyer, Watmough, Slater etc have equals in super league, If you do please name them.
At least 3 of McGuire "missed tackles" I thought he did well just to get near the man in the first place.
Playing Tomkins & Eastmond is fine by me, McGuire was cr@p and deserves to be dropped but don’t expect miracles.
I thought I was popular, having said that you know what they say, hate in terms of definition is very close to love so perhaps the majority on here all very much love me but dont want to admit it. having said that, if they really do hate me though, and I mean really hate me then I apologise for what ever I have done to warrant it.
A position he's not really played at club level since about week 3 of the season. Yet you still think he's Englands best at that position. You might be right.
Had he played at full back on Saturday do you think the result would've been ANY different?
Maybe if all these wonderful potential England players that are being kept out of their rightful England jersey by such inadequate Leeds players could actually play better during the season then the obviously inept Leeds players might not get rightfully selected.
What's the other little nugget we've had over the England squad. Oh yes, too Many Warrington players.
Well guess what? These Warrington and leeds players only went out and won all the trophies in the domestic competition.
Now, if all these Great players at other clubs didn't hide their lights under a bushell all season long then maybe the selectors might notice them and give them a chance and maybe all these players, playing well within themselves all season long at clubs who win fook all, would wallop the Aussies and the Kiwis.
Then again, maybe, just maybe, these players are the best we have got and they're simply not as good as their antipodean counterparts? Maybe, just maybe, we don't have any alternatives because clubs like Wigan, Bradford and many, many others have for many years been woefully inept in comparison to Leeds and Saints in producing, and playing, young English players.
So, that being the case, maybe the fans of other clubs could STFU until their own teams put their houses in order and we finally have some decent young players playing at all clubs throughout the competition.
You know, maybe Lee Smith is not good enough for England. But I'll tell you what, the likes of Pat Richards, Cameron Phelps and George Carmont aren't exactly providing Smith with great alternatives in the threequarters now are they?
Is that why Leeds have let him go and signed Delaney. Is that why you got rid of Mathers and Calderwood and signed Donald and Webb?
BTW I'm not saying you are completely wrong, if it was a GB side Richards would be in.
I would also have given Michael Lawrence a chance. There is no one more supportive of young players than I am
Tomkins, Briscoe, O'loughlin and Hock (idiot) are all Wigan lads, not from Castleford and Oldham if you get my drift.
Wigans academy and reserve sides are producing the likes of Tomkins (x3) Hansen, Prescott, O'Carroll, Mossop, Goulding (although he hasn't progressed as much as I thought he would.
Good debate though.
Leeds academy this season was the worst I've ever seen it in recent times.
We didn't 'get rid' of Smith, he chose to go to union for more money than we could offer.
We didn't 'get rid' of Calderwood, he went to Wigan for the money.
No sure what happend with Mathers but the club can hardly have any accusers of not doing all they can to help the British game.. our youth policy has and is still fantastic.. (may be if a few other clubs followed suite we may have a chance internationally) the tread mill may have dried a bit of late, we have gone out and brought in some excellent young raw british talent around, Pitts, Amour, Coady, Ambler... we also have Ben Jones Bishop coming through who is very highly rated, add to the Kalum Watkins.. our future is looking bright and it's looking English !!!!!

Bang on mate.
Re-Mathers he had a contract on the table but wanted to try the NRL so good luck to him for that although it didn't quite work out due to injury.
As for the future there will be plenty more "homegrown" lads to come through aswell so i wouldn't be worried about how we produce players.

I’m not entirely sure what you are trying to point out there?
Leeds did make Smith an offer but had little chance of matching wasps
Mathers went to the NRL
Calderwood stayed in the SL
Both playing for Wigan then moved on!
Are you suggesting a club should never let an academy product leave? Since Mathers and Calderwood were at the club I would guess Leeds have given first team debuts to around 10-12 academy players including Smith, Hall, Watkins, Burgess etc
Mathers and Calderwood have both been playing top flight RL and are both eligible for England.
Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.

Leeds didn't let him go. They tried to retain him but like any other club in the league we couldn't compete with Union.
Nor did we get rid of Mathers and Calderwood. Same thing happened with those young lads after they tasted success with us. Mathers went to the NRl and then some silly club threw silly money at Calderwood. Both Then got re-united and ruined by said silly club
One could say we replaced Mathers and Calderwood with Hall and Smith who went on to play in the threequarters for England tis weekend.
You clearly get the point I am making and I sense you agree.
Once there is loads of quality young English centres running about in Super league we can have heated discussions about who should and shouldn't be playing but, frankly, I am loathed if I am going to be lectured by fans of teams who do not produce English players about Lee Smith, Danny McGuire or anyone else not being up to the task.

Cheers. Well it just makes you angry and laugh. Gareth makes a great point as well. There are so many clubs who have products of our excellent youth system in.. you can't keep em all in a capped league. I state again if other teams followed suite of the last ten years we'd be a lot better internaltionally. The reserve grade needs urgent attention as well. I'd scrap it and send all on loan personally..
